Default Walleye tag priority Idea

So I was thinking about the walleye tags in alberta, and thought up what I think is a really good Idea.

This is the first year I have actually gone through the tag process myself because I always considered the tags an absolute joke with the way it is completely random. Those who are responsible fisherman could pay in and not get drawn while someone who fishes twice a year probably wont use their tags have an equal chance to get drawn.

So here is my idea that will likely NEVER HAPPEN. What if CO's were able to reward fishermen with priority points for walleye tags? For example, A fisherman reports a poacher, and the report leads to a ticket and a poacher being caught. That individual can be awarded a priority point(s) for the draws. This way those who are responsible fisherman and do their part to look after the fisheries and follow the rules are rewarded with greater privileges (ie. choice of getting tags for their favorite lake).

For me who does alot of fishing, I would rather see tags go to those who I know take the extra effort to help fisheries. it gives incentive for more people do the right thing. It is really the same concept that poachers should be ineligible for tags, but reverse. Those who report them should get priority for reporting them.

What are your thoughts

Completely random, in conjunction with year priority. = fair.

The rest I wont even comment on.

edit: Guess I will comment. The rest should never happen.

Probably not a shared Idea, but I don't necessarily think that "Equality" / being fair is always the right application. Awarding people for looking after the fisheries, and promoting good behavior... Not necessarily a bad thing.

There are a lot of average guys out there who love to fish, abide by the rules but are not hardcore like some on here. The system is as fair as it can be now. The population of Alberta is growing rapidly and draws will likely be the SRD response to the growing number of anglers. Having CO buddies or kissing butt shouldn't get you better fishing opportunities.

I would think that the current cash reward system would be a far more attractive incentive to do the right thing. Even with the cash rewards many people still look the other way.

Agreed!!! I dont like poachers any more then anyone else but that idea is ridiculous. I think the part that makes it exciting is that you always have a chance getting pulled. If you didnt get pulled and think changing the whole system is the way to go then I dont know wat to tell ya. Look at how good of a job they did changing the system this year....

And as for the unfilled tags lets just call that a partial balance between responsible people and the poachers. Untill a couple years ago I almost always bought under subscribed tags and would only fill one or 2 of them on purpose to help balance out between me and the poachers. Lets face it the CO's can't be everywhere all the time so I think we should take it upon our selves to help the conservation efforts that includes reporting poachers but I shouldnt expect brownie points for it so that individually I have a better chance to get drawn (sounds a little selfish). The real reward for me is if I can share wat we have with my kids and they can share it with theirs.

I dont conserve for personal gain and neither should anyone else!!!
