Default Replacing carpet in boat

Time to replace the wood it has dry rot. Do I bother with marine grade wood?treated? Or just plywood to make for easy replacement? I am thinking I will use Nautolex vinyl instead of carpet. Thoughts & tips appreciated greatly. Thank you!

I did my boat a couple years ago with treated wood and marine grade carpet. I went to the hardware store and that's what they recommended for me. It was easy to do, unscrewed old wood and traced it onto the new stuff. Put down a bit of glue and stapled I up. Looks new again.

I personally do not recommend putting in marine carpet or carpet of any kind. If any moisture gets under it, the moisture will be there to stay. Treated wood does stay good for a long time, but its lifespan diminished rapidly if it is kept wet for longer periods of time. By not putting in carpet, you are lessening the possibility ave having your treated wood go bad on you earlier than it should.

Treated wood is apparently no good for aluminum boats as it causes corrosion issues with the aluminum

If I would re-do my boat it would be with with that rubber spray in boxlinner.
Makes it a lot easyer to wash the inside .

^^^This...I replaced some bench seat tops and made removeable floor sections with good one side plywood and covered with vinyl decking, all bought at Home Depot. I also sealed the exposed wood underside. After ten years the vinyl still looks great and it has had a hard life.

I would NOT use regular plywood under flooring that was permanent and could not dried out tho, marine grade for that application.

I would think spray in boxliner would add too much weight?
