Default Police investigating gold heist at Toronto Pearson Airport

The making of a great movie.

'Very rare' heist at Toronto Pearson airport leads to $20M in gold, high-value goods stolen.

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/very-rare...olen-1.6364327

Very well executed.

In a strange coincidence, someone panning for gold in the North Saskatchewan river , near Edmonton, hit it rich.

Who carries insurance on that shipment?? Hard to believe they would ship something like that without additional security.

So what do they consider high value goods? Could have been an ounce of gold or a gold watch and ??? That =20 million.

One of the robbers will inevitably spill the beans, it always works out that way most of the loot will never be recovered.

Bars are serialized and like art, not easy to fence. Of course if you could smuggle it out of country, lots of places willing to take it, India for instance. Betting these guys were professionals.

Gold bars are not only serialized the composition is recorded for identification, only way to cash in is to melt them down into jewellery that takes connections.

Back in the Tombstone silver days they poured the silver into 180 pound ingots tp prevent theft not easy to steal.

The 4 9's purity gold normally in professional bars is impossible to trace, just remelt pour your own bars. They might get Parker to remelt them and sell them on History Gold show. He is short of good areas to mine in Yukon.

"Air Canada's cargo operations were handling the $20 million worth of high-value goods mysteriously stolen from Toronto Pearson airport, a source says".

I have a dually van & can assist with transport for the low, low price of 1%!

If they want melting & re-casting services, its 2%

Kidding/not kidding.

Time for another one of the RCMP's "Mr. Big" operations?

Initial reports were the whole shipment was gone, which is where they got that number (I've seen as high as $140 mil) but once they had the police on record, seems it was 'only' one of the packages that was missing, valued at around $20 mil.

A Keystone cops story, sounds like some heads should roll, but probably won't. A lot of unanswered questions.

The real question is, since its within Canada, f they catch the people responsible will they just be given 6 months probabtion like the other theives who steal 10 cars a year?

Why the hell do the police/justice system at differently when its a 20mil gold theft versus a local loser whose stolen 5 cars?

Air Canada is not the most organized outfit
The container could just be lost, a month from now it will show up in Denver or Saskatoon.

It wouldn't be a Canadian crime story without the press connecting the perpetrators to firearms.

The only way a heist involving 9 criminals is going to succeed is if the smartest one of the group kills the other 8.

Can't wait for the plea bargaining and "time served" sentences.

taken into custody and released on conditions.

Only in Canada would this happen.

An interesting question. Given a chance to steal 20 million worth of gold with a “good chance” of not getting caught. Who wouldn’t?

My guess, most of bars have been melted down and repoured into smaller untraceable bars. Sold on black market at slightly reduced price per oz. The country where they have been sold quite evident by nationality of most of the heist boys. Weddings almost always include gold in brides dowry.

You think any of them that are immigrants will get deported? They're probably hoping for this so they can spend their hard earned dollars.
