Default 284 based cartridges

FYI for anyone interested I have been working with 6-284 , 25-284 and 6.5-284 and 284 and feeding out of Pre 64 model 70 works absolutely fine . With throats cut for bullets seat out to utilize the case capacity they feed fine.

Not debating that similar cartridge based on the 30-06 case would be better or worse just passing the info on for anyone that likes experimenting .

Reliable feeding is always a concern when the basic ‘06/308 family of cartridges is deviated from. Good to here some positives towards outcomes for sure.

Thanks for sharing.

I have no experience with those, but I remember reading that someone had wildcatted the 284 way down to 22 and up to 416.

My buddy has a 6-284. Very impressive on coyotes and deer.

Many years ago I rechambered my uncles win 70 243 to 6-284 . I chronographed max loads in his 243 and with 100 bullets it was maxed at 2950 fps after rechambering to 6-284 the same bullet was 3350 fps in his factory barrel

Played with pretty much every 284 variation.
Couple others that are neat is the 22-284, built mine a while ago. Barrel life is kinda short. Lol
And the 30-284. This should be done on a long action. Needs to be throated long to make use of the heavy bullets.

Yes , using a long action and throating the chamber according utilizes the case capacity and the length of the action.
