looks like the tail was cut ,caught one like that (not that big)was told it was fishery brood stock,males that cant span no more ,just get big .nice fish anyway.smoking or gravadlax would be in order for that guy.

Management of the recreational sport fishing in a private lake is fraught with problems from people feeling that they should be allowed to stock their freezer to people stealing fish to people showing very, very poor catch and release techniques. I personally believe such a fishery should be managed for a certain amount of harvest...but ultimately it should not be a freezer fishery.
I am not sure you killed that hog or not.
Not saying I don't love catching them big fish but I am not so sure it would be a wall hanger. A great photo memory for sure! You have to realize they are stocked that big and not naturally grown. If released they will provide 4 or 5 more years of fun. In our lake I personally would suggest and encourage people keep the smaller ones say under 20 inches and release the big ones. That way many, many more people will have the thrill and the stories. I have a seen a lot of kids very, very happy with life after catching and releasing a hog like that.
I would also love it if the hatcheries could grow them so they had a tail. Better fight and prettier picture IMHO.

Fish management is interesting in a closed stocked pond. Last year they put a lot of very large fish into the lake. The residents of the lake community pay specifically for these fish to be put in. I agree fully that the fish need to "last" until the next time they stock the lake for sure. LOL- I agree that fish from a stocked lake NEVER need to be freezer fillers, seriously what's the point. I'm not a big fan of how these fish from stocked ponds taste anyways. I agree with the clipped tail thing, u-u-ugly - Ive had the pleasure of having MANY kids catch their first fish in that lake (3 more last week)...All this to say, when I go to Tofino over the long weekend, I pray that my freezer will be able to accomodate the Salmon and the Halibut swimming out there right now with my name on them.
