Was at Chickakoo afew weeks ago with a friend, he was outfishing me(maybe beginners luck? hehe) I think 15 to 3(got there around 11, left for Muir at 3ish), with a lot lost in the weeds, only using a small orange, yellow, and green Mepps. End of the day it was pretty beat up, I was switching through the same size mepps, just diff. colors(only brought one of the green), all day.

Through the years and all different locations and conditions, panther martin has always been one of my favorite spinners for trout.

In deeper, flowing waters I would put a small weight about 16"-18" in front of it to get them down. In still water or waters with little current, I would use nothing in front of them.

6lb test also helped for casting distance.

Brown or green micro jigs with short tails, ultra light rod and real, 4lb. test line. Retrieve as slow as you can.
Try it once, let us know the results.

you asked for the best hook

the hook i use for trout is a gamagatsu octopus, about 7 mm from point to shaft, or slightlty smaller, maybe 1/4 inch point to shaft,

they get hooked almost every time,
also make sure you dont use a short shank hook, they fall out easier due to the shank length
