going to a pothole 20 minutes out of edmonton isnt the same. he needed his wilderness/beautiful scenery/natural fish fix.

To the OP, NICE FISH. Half of fishing is the fun had finding the water. Can't wait to hit a remote foothills/mountain honey hole on august long.

Thanks for the pics.Cool rainbows and nice spot too.

No wonder people hesitate to put their pics on here. Always a jerk or two waiting to show that no brains are required to bang on a keyboard.

I didn't realize that Muir was so close to AIRDRIE (the original posters location).

Nice 'bows, Fins; looks like fun.

Default I appologize

Sorry for the lack of info on my OP. Generally i post little on here, as it resembles hanging your vitals on a wire at 50 yards at a gun range and handing all onlookers 12 ga. beretta's. I'm near Alexis Creek, BC, as i took on a contract for 3 wks at a 760,000 acre ranch for a well to do rancher. I'm over 100 kms from the closest retail grocer, and in this country a white guy is considered a "honky". I knew i was going to a land of lakes and streams, so i packed along a flyrod. Not just any flyrod, but my wife's. Also, her box of exquisite flys. You see, she died of breast cancer at the young age of 48, Jan. 4, just 6 months ago to the day those photos on July 4, were taken. Call me sentimental. Her rod, a TFO, 6 wt., rigged with 6 lb. tippet, just as she had left it.

An elder native ranch worker promised to take me to a lake where nobody ventured, (40 kms of bad road, the last 3, daring), where action was terrific, with bow's taken at 11 lbs. His word was golden. Unfortunately, the 6 lb. gave way to 3 of the bigger fish in their first hit and belly roll, and i lost 3 of her flys. I can almost here her scolding me now.

We pulled in over a dozen....if i'd had the mind to take a sinking line and some weights for my streamers, I think we'd have hit nicer fish, but again, the 6 lb tippet wouldn't have topped them. We/I was out for adventure, and it was bountiful. As one poster pointed out, adventure isn't for everyone, just hit up the crowded lakes around edm. Bigger fish surely wouldn't have meant more fun for me, nor my native buddy.

I post here for the expert fishermen/photographer folks (men and women) who i most enjoy following on AO. My abilities are humbled by theirs!

Fantastic post finsnfeathers.

Great story, one for the memoirs.

Too bad the big ones always get away. Looks like you're going to have a great summer.

Enjoy the Chilcotin. Love it there.

And just to prove that you realy dont get it. The 40 km into the back country is as much what makes this trip worth posting as the quality of the fish he caught to some of us... the outdoorsmen that is.

x2. Well said, Cal. I notice you changed your signature line, too.

@FinsnFeathers: Looks like an awesome time. I bet it's also great for reflection as you use your late wife's gear, almost as if she was there with you.
