Default Highwood Question

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question for anyone that has fished the Highwood along the highway just as you come into K country.

Can you cross with waders or would you need a pack raft (typical flows, not spring run off height)?

Thanks,

Huk

I’ve crossed on foot at Cataract Creek and didn’t find it too bad. It’s a little strong but doable. Please be careful. I’d hate to be the guy to say it’s fine and you run into trouble.

During typical flows I've crossed at many places along the highwood that were max 2 foot deep. Even way down by Longview there's lots of places to cross.

Pick your spots and like folks have said, watch the flow charts. I’d recommend a hiking pole or wading staff to help with footing this time of year because one wrong step and it could go very badly.

During the snow melt in the mountains, the Highwood can get pretty wild, asking for trouble to cross it, after run off, never had a problem getting across with waders, but still have to pick your spot.
