Default Cold lake travel conditions

I'm heading up to cold lake this weekend and was wondering how the ice travelling conditions are? Should I bring the quad or the skidoo? We had an incident up there a few years back ( when it was cold and there was 2 feet of ice) that forever made me fearful of driving my truck on that lake, so that's not an option!! Thanks in advance?
