I haven't followed this guy's career/history/election speeches enough to know everything that he did/said to get elected, but WOW did he ever lay it on the line at the recent WEF meeting. I'm sure there were lots of ears burning there.

Argentine President Javier Milei - wonder if he can run two countries if P.P. decides to vacate the Conservatives for some reason. Well, maybe not, but it would be sweet if the guy were invited to speak in our Parliament. Wonder what Socks would say.

That said, he had best tread carefully around some of his earlier official statements.

Argentina has been on a downward spiral for years. In Canada the inflation rate at this time is over 3 percent. In Argentina the inflation rate to this point in January 2024 is 211.4 percent. Just imagine trying to live in a country like that. I know if I lived there, I would be angry too.

And the people cheered.

Then they started nationalizing foreign holdings in the resource sector

And the people cheered.

Then they decided not to pay their foreign debt.

And the people cheered.

Then they wondered why no one would sell imports on credit and no one would invest in the country and why there were no jobs anymore.

And the people woke up to reality.

You see no matter what the ideology of the government the people are in it for themselves

When the apparent free ride is over and the socialist paradise does not deliver the people soon figure out that the government lies are to blame.

I believe average citizen gets $2 a month or something ridiculous to live on

Not only that but their Peso is worth so little that it has almost no value and is volatile so most places won’t even give you a value for currency exchange. I have a friend who travels there semi regularly from Europe who said you can’t get the local Peso outside of the country and basically anything you exchange in the country to Pesos stays there as no one will exchange it back. Euro and USD are the currencies of choice. And there’s a whole black market currency exchange system there. Even folks in Argentina who do make fairly decent money through their businesses have a hard or almost impossible time to exchange it for anything else so they may be well off in Argentina, but can’t exchange it to use outside of the country (for vacations or to leave).
