Best Moose Call?
Hey guys. I am looking for some help deciding which moose call to try this fall. My grandfather taught me to use a birch bark "funnel", so that is my fall back. However, something that is commercially available, with or without a reed, that would be durable enough, is what I'm after. I looked at the Primos and a couple others, but walked away from Cabella's thinking I could really use some advice! Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thank YOU!

Or a big coffee can with a hole in the end. String a skate lace thru it and wet down. Old school moose calls, post birch bark, pre cabelas.

The best moose call is the one you already have. I've played with the commercial moose calls just for entertainment but the best i can manage is a so so buck grunt. Save your money for gas and use your voice.

Yup just cup your two hands together and start calling , anything louder than that can spook them I have found .
Not sure if this link will work but I am calling in this bull a mile away that is with 3 other moose and I am just using my hands. Film starts rolling when he is around 60 yards away.
Just click on the picture .

Unless you've got a cold just use your voice, if you're looking for a more durable substitute for a birch bark cone I saw a guy using a child's plastic baseball bat with both ends cut off. Seemed to work pretty good for him.

I like the bark cone, but I have called them in with just hands and throat. Don't need anything fancy. I bought a couple comercial ones, they don't sound as good I find.

All I've ever used is my hands or the birch bark funnel. Seems to work

Old dried up canoe paddle or dried moose/domestic cow shoulder blade raked on trees.
Substitutes for birch bark(my personal fave) include rolled up tar paper, traffic cones(soft flexible cones can be rolled up/stuffed in a big pocket) or as mentioned repeatedly, good'ol cupped hands.

I love this quote. My wife came upstairs into the office on the weekend and caught me working on my calls - YouTube videos and all.

Your mouth with either cupped hands or small birch bark call. As too the two litre plastic pop bottle trying bending or crunching it the snap and crackle will send any moose running Ive had the same birch barc call for over twenty years and its still in good shape.

x2! I made one a few years ago from a dollar store kids bat and it works great! Not as noisy as a 2L pop bottle and carries sound way out there; the last two bulls I called in were a ways off. I drilled holes in both ends and attached a light rope for carrying over my shoulder while walking, works great!

Pringles can empty of course with a skate lace through the bottom. Wet it and give a pull way less tin sound than coffee can called in a bunch over the years. Cow and bull calls possible.
