Default Beaver hanging 330 works!

2 days ago I set up a 330 on a new beaver hut I found. Just hung it 18 inches bellow the bottom of the ice with a few half peeled poplar sticks wired to the bottom jaw! Picked up my biggest beaver yet! Must be over 50 lbs! See if I can get a few more!

Congrats! That set is one I intend to try. Did you hang it off a pole or did you hang it off wire?

Tied about 36" of wire to a pole and set the depth with springs pulled to the top and hung it in the whole! Took about 6 finger thick pieces of poplar and scrapped them up a bit to show some white! I wired these sticks ( about 5 " long ) together then to the bottom jaw!

Congrats Mark!! Good stuff. I think most guys use a biger 10-12 " piece and wire it in but it seems like it worked for you. Can't wait to see the pic. I got one the other day on land. He must have been starving and kept coming out of a hole and walking 30 yards to some poplars he chewed down. I set a 330 right on his trail and he walked right into it.

So the sticks would hit the beaver when the trap fired ? Not sure if I'm reading it wrong. I've only ever wired them to the trigger ( which I don't do anymore ) or squeezed a stick between the bottom bars when the trap is set. When the trap fires the stick floats away

Congrats on the big beaver as well !!!

Ya I guess they could hit the beaver. Never really considered that as they are about the diameter of my pinky finger and about 5-6 inches long. About 5 of them bundled together!

Does your Wife/Girlfriend have a bathroom scale? Stand on it with the beaver and again without it.

That's a pig of a beaver. He was likely king of his domain for a good number of years

Congrats again !

That's the way it starts. Then one day you'll look in the mirror and there'll be a trapper looking back at you! ROFL

Congratulations on you first flat tail in a coni. That's one of the tougher catches to make. Now go get some more, , ,
