Default Will this daytime warm weather ruin our ice?

Its currently 3 C in Edmonton right now, supposed to be the same for the next few days. We're still getting lows of -10 C overnight. Do you think this is going to ruin the 5-6" of ice we had last weekend?

I want to head up to the Whitecourt area again, I'd hate to make the drive for unsafe ice though :/

None around here yet. It's +4 right now and sprinkling. The ANC road today was pure ice, lots of slipping and sliding.

It shouldn't, only been a handful of hours above freezing compared to many hours below freezing. It might of softened the top but that will freeze solid again quickly.

Today 7-8 degrees with high wind in the south, that will likely set things back in the south west. +5 for the next 2 days with high wind too.
+ temps overnight as well.

Might be starting tourney to early. Safety might be an issue?

even if there is open water then at least we can squeeze in a few more open water trips. i personally don't think the ice will last and will get really soft.

this first crucial skim of ice is the clearest I've seen in a long time, crystal clear and not bubbly, it can only get better going down if it doesn't melt off on some of the thinner late starters. just pray that we don't get some insulation before the next long cold snap.

I keep saying the same thing !

If we have a day with a high of +5.... Maybe only 1-3 hours of the day will it be like that , and for 15+ hours a day it should be below freezing temps. It may make it sloppy on a warm day, but the ice should still be good.

This rain we are getting right now in Edmonton may weaken a little bit though, but the ice I was on last weekend felt very safe and I will be going again on sunday and trying my luck lol !

Lake Sundance in Calgary has open water. Very late this year. Tons of geese don't help either.

I was out at Carson today. The roads were a bit greasy getting there, but the ice was still good at 6 to 7 inches. Not soft at all. Managed 3 decent Rainbows for the smoker. Does anybody know what the constant machine noise is out there?

I tooled around to 3 different lakes northeast of Edmonton today and all had atleast an inch of water on top of about six inches of black ice. If you're going, bring your spikes, there is virtually no snow on any lakes up there. Fishing was the s$%@ts.

I think they are just doing some maintenance. When I was there last weekend there was a chainsaw going the whole time. Or it could be a rig moved in close by or maintenance up at the battery.
