Default Question: Mexico shore fishing?

Hey guys, looking for some info here, I'm going to Mexico next year and want I do some surf fishing, anyone know if a license is required? From what I can see online it is not... Anyone know ? Or have any of you fished from shore well down there? Any problems?

Thanks

I've fished from shore and watched others do so. No license, never been asked for one. I wouldn't advise it in a protected zone obviously, but elsewhere, I've never seena problem.

I've been going down there yearly for the past 5 or 6 years. You do not need a license to fish from shore, only if you plan on going on a boat whether inshore or offshore.

I wish I could afford going down there more, but life gets in the way...

Have fun!!

I'll be staying around playa del Carmen, brining my spinning gear, mostly lures, probably some bait fishing but depends on what I find for bait, shrimp from the buffet?? Lol

Any suggestions on gear and lures?

Don't laugh. That's where most guys I've talked to get their bait, especially shrimp. And if you ask nice they might cook your catch.

If you're spin-casting it might help to either bring a surf casting rod or something a little longer to heave those lures out there. Try and bring some top water lures as well. It's so cool to see fish compete for the lure right at the surface I love to go after roosters and giant trevally, but you may have the chance at even mahi mahi if you are able to find some cliffy areas with a steep drop-off in the water.

I had to sacrifice my trip down there this year to attend my girlfriend's cousin's wedding out on the east coast this fall. I'll be living vicariously through you... Try and post some pics when you're there.

If you are going to Playa YOU DO NOT NEED A License to go out in a boat....if you can afford it walk along the beach & book to go out on a panga & troll for cuda/mackerel & bottom fish for a variety of fish...fishing from shore has it's challenges close to town...too many swimmers etc etc ...

Check and see if there are any tackle shops in the area, if you go on a excursion or something stop in and stock up on good surf lures, it is way cheaper down there. Poppers/ crank baits/ and some 2-3oz lures are a good start. I stalked up when i was in Cabo, lots of good shops there. I brought some fresh water lures and did alright as well. Definately bring a surf rod a d a reliable reel!
