Default Power Auger Throttle

I recently got the Jiffy Pro 4 Lite auger and just started it up today. Ran great on the first couple pulls. I let it idle and release the throttle. The engine purrs without the bit spinning but after a few seconds, the bit starts spinning slowly. I check the throttle and it was in the neutral position. Has anyone else experienced this - auger spinning while in idle and the throttle isn't pressed? I've had a gas Jiffy before and it didn't do that. Maybe it's a propane thing? Or is there a fix to it?

I wouldn't worry too much about it.. I have had my Pro 4 for three seasons and it does the same thing from time to time... I know the clutch is supposed to slip if you overload it while drilling so it may just be a way to correct itself once it is no longer being over loaded... Drilling another hole or turning it off and restarting it always seems to correct it

Could the idle speed be set a touch high?

This would be my thinking too but I really don't know how propane works..... There must be an idle adjustment.

Fair enough.

I've sent an email to Jiffy to see if it's common and if there's a quick fix. Will let everyone know when they respond.

100% correct - if the idle is high this is not uncommon. A Flat screwdriver fix is all you probably need.

doesnt do it with any regularity though, so Id say its more likely a case of water in the throttle causing it to ice up a bit and get sticky. usually goes away after a time or two. and doesnt do it all the time like throttle adjustment would do

Azn,

You're running out of auger options!

What's left?

I hear NASA is developing a fission powered auger.

Maybe consider a generator powered lazer?

Mine does it too. But only intermittently. I wouldn't worry about it.
I did have a problem with the way it ran though, no power and misfiring... It was the hose - it was leaking. Went to Temp. Heat and the set me up. Run like a dream again.

Here's Jiffy's official response:
There is a little play in the throttle. This is normal.

Being that the PRO4 is new, the clutch may be a little touchy. Go and use the drill. Drill a bunch of holes. The clutch surface may be a little rough and grabs the clutch drum at idle. By using it you will smooth out the surface. If that doesn’t help, the idle speed needs to be turned down on the carburetor. On the top side of the carburetor there is a vertical silver screw. With the engine running, turn the screw counter clockwise until the auger stops spinning at idle.
