the more Baileys you drink the harder it is to hold the rod. and the action gets softer too

They look pretty good, but when I shore fish which is pretty rare now, I like the rod/reel higher off the ground. Years ago Scotty used to make a strong holder, that you could even push into some rock with a bit of effort. Depending on where you fish, there can be lots of sand blowing around which is one of the reasons I went with the Scotty bank manager. The rod/reel combo also is higher allowing you to watch the tip, and makes removing the rod from the holder very easy. One of my sons liked the design as well, so we ended up making one from a potato fork and Scotty holder, works just as well. If fishing is slow and you are close to the garden, you can always dig some spuds to.

Default rod holder

i make my own rod holders. i like my rod higher off the ground for quick grab, and i can tighten line without bending down all the time.
4' rebar, about 8" x1 1/2" pvc with 2 cable clamps. duct tape around pipe for smooth finish. sharpen end that goes in ground. iv'e had my rod bend in half with a fish on and holder stays put. rod fits on to holder very nicely when walking to fishing spot.

Genius! I'm going to fab a couple up real soon, maybe a little large and cumbersome but at least I should not forget it behind like I do with the small spring types! Thank you very much!
