Pretty tough to beat Great Bear,we caught a few over 40lbs when I was up there.
Brother caught a 40 out of Rutledge,but thats about as big as they get there.

Nice. I feel better about my relaxed muscle now too!  Seriously though, heading for Ena and surrounding lakes in the morning. First time so will let you know if any legendary monster trout exist there!

That's a monster yikes. Tazin sure does look like a great place to go and they advertise little lost fishing time due to weather. That alone would go a long way if I were looking.

Plus they supply all tackle and lures NICE,since I gave all my lake trout lures away after my guiding days were done,

It's your 60th birthday and that trout maybe 60 years old also,so I hope you nail one that size and age.

A lot of great postings on this site . Just might do it also . I am seeing a lot of pictures of large lakers with their bellies full making them weight more . My vote would be Tazan Lake . But what is the average catch of the day . Are most around 10 to 15 lb lakers . I heard its a catch and release lake ,so i gather no shore laker lunches then or taking any home ,am i wrong ? Do they have down riggers on the boat to get deep , as thats where they are in july. Lots to thank about Whelen.
I too am turning 60 in 2020 and retiring.
I have never fished the west coast either . Its 50/50 on what to do. would be nicer to fish in a larger boat also . Have you fished the west coast yet Whelen ?

Don't need downriggers they just use a couple ounces of weights on their line and troll are you jig for them, you get a Shore lunch everyday but like most Lodge's up North none to take home don't really care for lake trout anyway to eat they are in shallow water that time of year.

Awesome thread everyone! Some great info on here.
We are in the process of booking a week up at Great Bear right now. Just trying to narrow down exactly which lodge to book into and the best time to go Tazin was on the list but we are taking my Dad and it’s always been his dream to fish Great Bear, so Great Bear it is this time around.
Can’t wait to read more great info and stories on here!!

Great Bear Lake. My husband was a fishing guide there when he was a younger man, and was actually there when the world record was caught. There's no other place he would go to if given the choice again. Only thing is the weather and winds. He was out with two clients and got caught in an unexpected wind once with 30 foot waves, and managed to get the custom made 20 foot boat with a 40 HP back to shore. He got a good tip from them for that feat.

Well my 60th year trip is going to be in Manitoba ,Had to buy a new quad last fall and a sled this winter ,Will be chasing smallmouth at my friends lodge with no guests there this year,Great for us old guides not so good for business .

Good for you. Yes this year is going to be tough on lodges. Feel sorry for those that have big loans on them.

I imagine Plumbers and all those North of 60 lodges will be hurting big time this year, miss going back to Trophy Lodge on GBL it's been 19 years, maybe when this Virus chit is over will have to make a return trip.

i am heading up into that country late July, first group I'm with is in Cree lake and we'll give Er a good go, I'll report back.
I like what I see of the Aylmer lodge, I'm booked pretty solid this year but next year looks good for it.
