Agreed...in AB. Trophy walleye are few and far between...it's a shame, really. Everyone just wants eaters.

30 eye or 40 pike
A 30 eye is definitely harder to get. Been trying for over 50 years. Have several 40 pike to my credit.

Yeah pike is easier for sure....I've had 4 this year already in very few outings. I'm still looking for a confirmed 30" eye....I've had 2 28" this year lots between 26-28 and one that was I think bigger than 28 but had no measuring device at the time. Still dont think it was over 30 though.

Think those might be river otter prints. Coon prints would be a bit more elongated and not quite as round.

Your last post proves you are smarter than me ...... never though of using my ice shelter anywhere except on the ice ..... but that's a great idea to stay out of the wind on these cool frosty fall days on the river.

I used my 6-man ice shelter one year for hunting. Made a nice little lodge for a couple of cots and was super easy to set up and move - way easier than a tent. Did a bunch of random camping on crown land with it. Just another thought of what you can do with ice shelters.

I had a couple camo pop up hunting blinds with built in seats that were perfect for ice fishing. Black on the inside. Good amount of room and easy to heat if needed. One of the camo pop ups would be perfect for along the shore too. Wonder if it is ok to have a fishing rod in the blind while waiting for a fall duck or goose to fly by? Have the dog along to retrieve. Instead of surf and turf...more like cast and blast.

Thats exactly how we keep warm until ice up. Ice tent works great. Just setup so you can see the lines.
