Default 2012/13 era 6.7 cummins motor

I know everyone has their favorite trucks and every other one is garbage, but were the 2012/2013 era dodge cummins 6.7 motors any good? Im looking at a couple lightly used dually's to pull the fifth wheel and horse trailer.

Yup!

Buddy runs 4 2013’s as his company vehicles, he drives like they’re stolen, does good maintenance and they keep running with half a million clicks on them.

Head gaskets can be a problem, but from what I've seen they are a problem for those guys who chip the engine for power. I like those guys as they keep me selling parts. But note as well things like turbo, injectors etc ( anything proprietary to that 6.7 in a dodge) is only is only available from Chrysler.

Yup , get a big arse rated chip cuz the 6.7 doesn't have enough power.....??? Then pay BIG bucks for head gasket replacement cuz you stretched head bolts.

And a programmer will not only increase HP, but will improve fuel economy as well.
Do head bolts and exhaust at same time as tuner. EGR delete as well.

The turbo can be rebuilt at Alamo Industries either in Calgary or Edmonton.

The 12 is a bit different from the 13….13 was the first year of diesel exhaust fluid once deleted both are a solid engine

Default The engine ain't the issue

Once deleted those 6.7s are solid, I know several with 500+ and no engine issues. Generally pulling high horses will give head/turbo problems but these engines make enough horses without the help.

If this truck has the 68RFE, you should plan on a tranny around 250k, earlier if driven around town (shifting is a killer). The AISIN does not have these issues but the RFEs do.

Trucks that are 10 yrs old can start to have rust issues and poorly repaired body work will also start showing up.

Head studs are a problem. It's a matter of time. ARP's will help.

Head studs, transmissions and front ends
If you own a Cummins you will be replacing these

Not if, but when

great motor thrown into a garbage truck. i think 13 was around the year dodge came out with the radius arm front ends instead of the 4 link which made them better. if it isnt deleted i would budget that immediatly. these newer diesels will kill your wallets thickness so you best decide if you really need/want one.
