Well just did a road trip and the back bays are opened up but the bigger bodies of water are still iced up except for the shore lines.
Ice is melting fast so hopefully come opener the ice is off the lake but I do remember a few years back I used my tinner as a ice breaker and my son thought I had lost my mind

Well just got back from French bay and she is 1/3rd opened up, the back bays are good so that’s a bonus and we are forecasted for warmer temps.
Got a feeling opener will be like a few years back ya gotta watch the wind or ice may blow in and block your launch.
Gear is all ready too!

Still has ice on it, back bays open, shorelines about 100 yards or so of open water, French bay 1/2 open but like I mentioned with ice still out there the wind could blow it in quickly will check Saturday and update, hopefully with the last two days of beauty temps the ice is off.

Well beauty day but still ice on the water which is blowing in and plugging up launch areas.
If you do go out tomorrow watch the wind direction which can change throughout the day.

That was the provincial park launch.
I will put the boat in French bay today and fart around there just not going to get out in the open water in case the wind shifts around.
The ice pushed in hard yesterday around the marina and closed it off.

It must be a dementia moment. I thought they had only those one foot wide slabs and spaced every 6 inches apart .

Well launched at French bay and played in the back bay there we call pike bay.
26 caught with many hits or lost them coming in. Wind was relatively calm and sunny BUT the ice moved into the launch area so recovery was interesting but hey it was an adventure and a fun start to the season!

We launched at English Bay and fished the North side for Lakers. We were jigging and landed 4 lakers and 1 burbot
We went near the mouth of the river and could see a lot of stacking walleye on the Lowrance ActiveTarget but they weren't interested in biting.
Fun day all in all and great to get out again

No. I talked to the parks guy that I know and he said they had to remove a slab as it was broken and just filled with gravel for now.
Only cold lake provincial m, marina and I believe French are new

Nothing new at French bay just a long shallow sandbox, good to launch smaller boats is all.
French bay campground and launch are now run by the MD not the province so hopefully it improves but major focus on the ski hill turning it into a four season resort type thing and discussions about another marina, boat launch being put in too but time will tell, a lot of red tape.

Thanks Gregg
12 C is like 53 f which is still cool, normally around 55 the pike will turn on more in the shallows ,but the lakers should be starting to bite like crazy before it turns .
I wonder how cool or warmer the bottom is ,I bet the lake is going to turn over any day .

The pike are starting to move out of the back bays, lakers are slow on the bite but it will get crazy in a week or two.

We’ve been out the last day and a half on the west side of the provincial park. Water temp is around 55 F.
We’ve had our best luck in 50’ or less running anchovies between 25 and 45 feet.
Bite is slow but definitely getting enough to keep it interesting.
Always fun to spend time on this lake!
