I was hoping to get a few pointers as regards to lures, bait and set ups to ice fish for stocked trout. I live near a stocked community trout lake and my young son has been talking about wanting to ice fish this winter. I have done a ton of fly fishing for trout but never ice fished for them. I’m all set up with rods, auger etc just need to figure out lures, bait, set ups people use with success.
So if you could help a father out with suggestions to get my son into some trout this winter I’d be very grateful.
Very tiny jigs and tip them with a very tiny piece of shrimp. When you jig it the shrimp should act as a tail and it should look like it is swimming. Use small movements to jig it about 1' off the bottom in 8-12 feet of water. 2-4 jigs then pause for a few seconds. They usually hit on the pause.
I agree with shrimp, I have found Power Bait works well also. In my areas, white and orange seem to be the best colours, so that may take some experimentation. I have had great success with slip bobbers about halfway down the water column in 12-20ft of water.

I also have had success with small pieces of shrimp however I give them a roll in garlic salt , and let them sit out of the fridge for a few days to really get that odour humming...deadly for stocked rainbows
