i was talking to a feller at work today and i mentioned i needed to get some firewood he suggested that i buy a permit and head down the trunk road to the destination they say and cut and gather the leftovers there. Anyone familair with this or who i would contact? He didnt have a lot of info but seemed sure of the system. Thanks

Default wood

Any fish and wildlife office will be glad to issue a permit ,its like 5 bucks and you can cut 3 or 4 cord i think , its been a couple years since i needed a permit , my buddy gets his every year around the burnt timber area.
its good for a month or so which allows you time to cut but its not leftovers you get , its standing dead trees ,softwood and there are a few areas they allow cutting.

A cheap way to get wood, if you don't mind the work. You can also get permits for rails , in designated areas.

Depending on where you live, try calling a tree service company for firewood. We are always willing to give it away, as it can be a hassel. Davey Tree and Asplund might be your best bets if you are in the country as they do alot of line clearance jobs....paticularly Asplund. If you are in Calgary, drop me a PM and I'll hook ya up!

Actually, I meant fence rails. Usually Lodgepole Pine. You can buy old railroad ties, but they are soaked in creosote and half rotten from disused rail road right of ways. Not my cup of tea.
