Why dos'nt the gov dish out rat traps, you know the very large mouse traps to all people in the area. Say 50 of them to every residence. Just give them a all out war.
Gonna take a few years to get rid of them. The babies will keep comeing out of the hiding spots.
I had some mice in my garage in the spring and with 6 traps out catching at least one mouse a day, it took 2 months before we have not caught one in the last 2 months. The baby ones just keeped comeing out of the nests where ever they were hiding.

They need to import 10,000 fox to the area, or other preditors. But then that would probly create other problems down the road. LOL
I know! $100 bounty for every rat killed and turned in. You would have thousands of rat hunters out. I know I would go there for a week or two and hunt them suckers.

Default good idea Kim ....

Sounds like MedHat's bureaucrats are gonna take action ....

operation haystack (how does poison for rats not arm pets, they got some sort of gentically selective arsenic their using now ? )

... just wait'n for the PETA folk to get out there with a protest, kinda like Canmore and their bunny problem.

I wonder if these Norway Rats r gonna receive the same support/attention ....

TBD

... just my thoughts

This news is about 2 weeks old .
They are transporting snakes to the dump to combat the rats from what I understand, and traps and such.

Snakes are good at the dump, but what about the rats that are turning up in the towns and other areas? What are they doing to combat the ones that hitch a ride in a hay bail or something else. I say bounty!

Gonna be some big snakes there next year. Well feed.

Default What ?? -- the forum trolls get to police the topics for discussion on here ??

Realize this had limited talk a week ago, but felt we missed the mark on this one ....

Where's PETA .... (seals - good, bunnies - yes .... RATS - ?? )

It's stuff like this that shows them out to be the hyp·o·crite 's most of
them r !

make sense Hal ?

Cat - what kind of poison only works on rats and doesn't harm pets ? (that doesn't sound right )

The black box traps that the poison is in, would be very difficult for a house cat or dog to get into. I know they are checking every place with greenfeed bales along the border. Hopefully the nest at the Medicine Hat land fill gets wiped out in a hurry.

A snake is a good idea for about 8 weeks of the year, they don't move real quick in -30 degree weather

Nowadays grain is hauled all over western Canada every day.....they are never going to totally eradicate rats.....but there is an ongoing process in operation along the Alberta - Sask. border to control them. Farmers, communities, garabage dumps etc. all need to do their part.

Absolutely. Only, given the number of rats they've found and their distribution, somebody hasn't been paying attention. Gotta wonder how many people just regard them as cute rodents. Raccoons wouldn't be a problem in places like Toronto, if people were willing to deal with them.

They are NOT allowed to place bull snakes in the dump, they are a protected species , and for sure would be run over from bull dozer's, but they are placing them around the sensitive areas in the Hat after they are caught in the city, they have done it for years and that is the protocol.
