Yeah, it's funny.....because he left out the part about regular starvation, bad teeth, high infant mortality and short life expectancy and a few other things.
Still, I see the moral in his story. He's talking about freedom, IMO. They had a lot more of it than we do.

Odd chief two eagles looks a lot like Chief Dan George. Must be a generic file photo.

Some things are worth giving up for more freedom. Not to say that I would wish any of that on anyone, but have we really ended such things? And what was the cost of our efforts?
Are we really any better off, with rising cancer rates, drug addictions and young folk entering the work force with an Iphone and a pillow?
But I get your point, and yeah the bad stuff was left out. I think we often do that too when we talk about our society.

Those abo guys were always kind and perfect....especially among themselves.

Wonder if the Assiniboines ever made restitution?

The story gets better.
A Snake women (some say three women) escaped and lived up in the Pierre Grey Lakes area for the winter eating rabbits and lynx.. lots of lynx up there.
The lady was found in the bush by a trapper and ended up living her days at Jasper House.....I don't know which one. Jasper House used to get moved around a bit.

I don't know. We should be. Sometimes I think everyone should have to spend 30 days alone in the bush. Get connected.

Sure does. The only decent age was after the white man brought horses. Even that was hard. Anyway, we should've spent more time teaching each other, IMO. The Métis got some of that right for a while and now most seem to be just another Taker.
Yup, 30 days in the bush. Find your own spiritual connection with something. It'd be a good rudder and help to fend off hubris.
