Default Another Ecoboost thread

Picked up a new F150 with the Ecoboost engine. Man this truck is fast. Scary fast. 0-60 RFN fast.
Love the truck. Crew cab and the back seating area is huge.
Only quibble is lack of storage in the center console, but I guess that will keep me from accumulating crap.
Now I have to get rid of my eighteen year old Chev.
Anybody know anyone in need of a good reliable rig rocket. Good on gas and lots of newer stuff on it. Its been taken care of.

Cheers
Dan

You got it right this time, frankly the F150 ecoboost is in a class all of it's own, there in not another truck builder on the planet that have anything even close. There is only one problem with the design, there is a shield near the cat converter that will trap grass, and could start a fire. This is fairly common info from companies that run this truck in it's fleet, get rid of that shield and off you go. One other thing you should know...you're never going to own another Chev thats for sure.

It would be great if they put that engine in the Expedition. I might just buy a Ford. Ford has something good going for them with this engine, hopefully they don't screw it up.

Default 18 years from now.....

" Hey I've got this old Ford Ecoboost for sale, it runs fine but the two turbo's
are shot, and has no power now. Easy fix, the trucks box alone is worth the price".........

LoL...

All the best with your new truck.

My 2011 has 65000km on it. Not sure I'm really impressed with the fuel economy (avg: 13.0 l/100km) but definately like the truck in itself.

Probably be trading it in before too long and get the same thing.

There is a hidden compartment underneath the seat under the center console (if you have a bench) good place to keep your beer, gun or anything else you need for a road trip or things you dont want the wife to find...LOL

I have one myself and I couldn't be happier. TONS of power and speed (relative speed) and it drives and handles great.

Somehow I doubt speed was the major factor in designing an Eco engine. But I do realize getting to the next red light quickly is a major consideration for most...or not

I've heard and read so many discretion's between what guys are getting for fuel economy. Anywhere from 9.0l for some guys to 17l/100km for others. We drive the 5.0l f150's at work and all are averaging 12-13l/100km. I'm leaning towards the 5.0l myself.

Despite the short term apparent benefit- It is still a small engine under large pressure asked to do the work of a V8.

Was curious what the price differential is between the ecoboost and a 5.0l F150?

Default ecoboost mileage

I put on 4,000 kms last week and a half and burned 500 litres. Thats 12.5 L/100kms mostly highway loaded down and I wasnt poking along either.
I will take that mileage on a pickup any day. Love it.

About 1500. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

The ecoboost Ford's are definitely very nice! Took a long hard look at them when I was truck shopping last year, but decided that a 1/2 ton just couldn't do what I needed. Went with a Dodge 1 ton diesel instead.

Too bad Ford can't make as good of a diesel engine as these v6 ecoboosts seems to be. Maybe a Super Duty with twin turbo v8 gasser is on the horizon, now THAT I would be interested in seeing!

And for all the turbo haters out there... suck it up, the technology is good now, its reliable, makes awesome power, with better fuel economy. And with the amount of turbo vehicles on the market now, parts and labour costs for maintenance will become more and more affordable.

Default 5.0

Went from wainwright to edmonton to cabelas then to clive then to edmonton then back to wainwright and avg 11.2L/100km still had half a tank, I got the 136 litre tank for a full size pick i will drive it when ever and where ever possible. I have herd that those eco boost are like a rocket sled on rails, Now saying that my 5.0l gets up there very quickly as well. To each his own but i know this truck is way better than my old 2007 chev work truck.

the Tundra gets peak power earlier at lower rpm, off the line and out a bit I had the ford beat, he would have had me if not for the light turning red up ahead, once the turbos kicked in

the specs are similar with the Tundra @ 381 hp 401 torque
Ford @ 365 hp 420 torque

the new fords are nice no doubt about it, however lets compare when both trucks have 300,000km on them
