They mate for life.

That’s a long haul

Life is relative. They live less than 20 years, though they have been known to live up to 80 years in captivity.

I like ribeyes. Both beef and crane ..
Because Sask has a season, these birds know the provincial boundary, and pour down the eastern border of Alberta. It’ll be nothing short of spectacular.

They mate for life, but when one dies the other mates with another partner.

I jumped out of the truck, mad as heck, and was about to call him back when he came barreling out of the trees with the young sandhill crane hot on HIS tail! Wish I could have seen what happened, but I take it that when cornered they can put on a pretty good show.
Hopefully guys in AB know not to send dogs unless the crane is confirmed dead. They are known for going after the eyes of dogs.

this dad joke just gets funnier each time i hear it.

there's so much you can do with canada goose, it's pretty edible. i'm sure crane would be pretty interchangeable. a lot of people are really missing out. goose confit, goose jerky, goose sausage, corned goose, smoked goose pastrami, montreal smoked meat recipe, etc etc. but they do make pretty good bratwursts or italian sausage as well.

another good one is hank shaw's duck pie recipe

Their young are called 'colts'. I know farmers west of Rimbey that say that they lie down, stretched and flat out, when trying to hide from the tractors. At times, they do it right in the wheel ruts and the operator can't stop in time.
