Where to go for canoe trip

Just brainstorming ideas for my brother's stag party.
Whats a good canoe trip to take for a couple days or so?
One where most of us will survive to see the wedding...
Not much canoe experience in the group overall, just day trips in cheap canoes.

I would suggest your local pool which has lifeguards, then you can cab it to the bar

Red deer to drum has some of the nicest scenery

Canoe fishing trip sounds like a good thing a stag canoe trip sounds like a bad idea. I don't know the guys you would be going with but a lot of booze might make things ugly.

A canoe trip lasting a few days into the backcountry requires a bit of equipment, skills, preparation and some hard work. Way easier just to car camp somewhere and then people can park and get their drink on. How far are you guys willing to drive for your trip, how many are you and do you all have camping gear?

I'm thinking "leisurely paddling/fishing/sunburning" more than "Authorities follow trail of empty liquor bottles through white water rapids to find the bodies of three canoes full of yahoos".
How long does it take to canoe from reddeer to drumheller? Or possibly stop/start at tollman brigde? I don't want to go anywhere too remote (I've seen deliverance).

OK Dewey the north sask river flows at about 4 mph, not sure what the red deer river does

Rocky mountain house to Drayton valley is a very nice trip its about 145km trip and is a nice weekend trip

You guys would be better off just hanging out watching Deliverance than mixing canoes with a stag party.

Berrymore bridge to Devon bridge on the north Sask. river is a leisurely 2 days. A few islands you can camp on. It is a pretty tame river but always wear your PFD in a canoe on a river. Read this....

Red deer river south of red deer. content bridge (west of settler) too Toleman bridge would be close to what your looking for. Theres a few different bridges you could get out on. Never done it but I think red deer to drumheller would be quite a long trip especially if river is slow.

I used to do an annual trip with a group of friends that was more about having a couple cold beverages and a good time than paddling. Spent most time just floating tied together and fishing than paddling. Unless the wind is in your face then you will have no choice but put a few hours of paddling in or you will be moving upstream.

Not much for rough water and rivers pretty shallow in most spots so nice if someone flips a canoe you can most likely just stand up to get to shore and retrieve your belongings.

Lakeland Provincial Rec. Area. All lakes, Jackson, Blackett, Kinnaird, Mcguffin to name a few, for the most part interconnected in one way or another, all with dam good fishing(walleye, pike, and perch). Lots of good shore camping, and no rivers!!! A few portages, but all in all a great trip. You can make it as long as you want.

Mind you when I was 25 yrs old I went on a canoe trip with 3 other guys for about a week in Algonquin park and only remember having a couple of 40ties of rye and Voldka. And lots of fish crisp for the brook trout we ate every day. And we survived. So if you save the partying for after the paddling you'll probably have a great time. It all depends on the guys you go with. There are some friends I would never get in a canoe with. I think the Red deer river would be a mellow river to do. I've never done it so I'm kind of curious to see what other guys have to say. Oh and sorry to sound like your wife. And mine for that mater. Ha

I went on a stag canoe trip, from the boat launch on Lake Minnewanka to LM 31 (back of the lake, past the narrows). Took 5.5 hours to get out there IIRC, calm day with light tailwind for the last little bit. Had a few beers on the way out but saved the heavy drinking for when the Canoes were beached. Spent 2 nights, had a great time.

This one. Go early enough in the year that they are still letting water out of the dam so you can actually float the canoe all the way down. Going all the way to drumheller would likely be longer than you are looking for. Not sure what the name of the bridge is on the hiwy from Big Valley, but it makes for a good overnight spot then continue the next day, having lunch at Dry Island Buffalo Jump. Have someone meet you at Tolman bridge to ride you back to fetch vehicles.
