I have a story about a stuck wad that most would not believe.

dad and I were getting ready to go hunting. Dad's shotgun never used to leave the gunrack on the wall unless he himself moved it.

It is a Rem 1100, Full Fixed.

So anyhow, we had a party at the house the weekend before and the kids were all playing and some of the older ones were looking at the guns.

Don't ask me why, but before we left to go hunting, Dad decided to look down his barrel. have seen him do this only once, and it was that particular time.

He said that there was something in the barrel he couldn't see out the other end. So he tried to blow it out, maybe some dust or a lesf or something ...no sir.

So then we got a cleaning rod. Good luck ! whatever was in there was in there like cement. We put the barrel in a vice and rammed at it, but no movement. Finally we heated up a steel rod and jammed it in, that didn't work. Dad was sure somone had jammed a candle end in there...

we put some lube in and more stuff and after an hour of working on it, out came a wad.

It blew our minds?
That stuck wad had to have been the last shot fired with the gun (obviously)

How lucky not to have fired it again...

I pulled the trigger on some ducks and got a 'whoosh" sound. I pumped in another round a pulled the trigger again. Seems the whoosh was only enough to move the wad about 15" up the barrel on the first shot. The second shot burst the barrel right at the wad..man I had a headache. Lesson learned!

Scary stuff! I've never thought about it but I'm going to check my shotgun barrel for obstructions more often now!

I know a guy that burst his rifle barrel and it peeled back like a banana in two pieces. He and his friend bore sighted their rifles and then got to talking and got distracted. When he finally decided to sight the rifle in off the back balcony he had forgotten to take the rod from the bore sighter out of the barrel. KABOOM! Fortunately no one was hurt but it gave both of them a good scare.

I'm going to ask the fella to send me a picture of it and I'll post it on AO.

Apparently Mythbusters tested the same story and dismissed it as a myth.
Try telling that to the two guys that witnessed it first hand!

One should always make sure to blow your wad right out the end of your barrel!!!

You should also always pull your rod out before taking a shot!

I had a malfunction on my progressive ;loader last year, and had a bunch of squibs - about 300!!
Instead of taking them all apart, I just shot them at the range, but what a hassle!! Every now and then I'd get a "PHIITT!" and the shot would 20 feet, or only 5 and the wad would stick in the barrel!
Dragged a dowel around the range form a bit!!

It isn't that rare for this to happen when a person shoots skeet or trap a lot. However, after hearing an unusual sound, you should always check the barrel, before chambering another round.Cat is well aware of this,I posted it for other readers to consider.
