Too long is dangerous but shorter within in reason is ok. I'm gearing up to load a 32-20 and found the 3 cases avaialble vary by 1/16! With the long 30-30 case neck I don't see a problem.
You might consider using them for range cases as the short cases and varying length can wreak havoc on crimping. That way you can shoot single shot and not have to messing with your dies to crimp.
They aren't garbage, guys with bolts and H%R Handis would be interested as they don't need to crimp.
