Winter bow river nw calgary

So I’m terrible on the bow on a good day In the summer but now with the river being open year round in nw Calgary and this week is lookin to be warmer I’m very tempted to go and suck in the winter as well.
1. Haven’t been down to the river but is it even open water around bowness
2. Is it any good winter fishing around bowness
3. I’ve read lots on winter fishing but it’s all for downstream of the treatment plant and not sure how much different it will be upstream. Apparently the water is warmer and more fish down there
