That depends on the weight of the rifle/scope,the load, the fit of the gun,and most of all the shooter. Some people can tolerate recoil quite well, and some can't.

Eat your meat & potatoes, lots. You'll soon grow into it.

I started shooting a 257 roberts when I was 12 110 pounds soaking wet, then at 13 I was shooting my dads 30-06 at about 130, shot it without a problem, now at 14 I picked myself up a 270 and shoot it comfortably at 150lbs, but again it is all in how you handle recoil.

put a limb saver recoil pad on you should have no trouble shooting it.

The .270 feels pretty much the same as a 30-06 to me, a bit more than a 30-30. The savage rifles tend to run a little light as well so a 7mm-08 might be a better choice if you can find reasonably priced amo for it where you live. If you've done a fair bit of shooting with the 30-30 though you should do alright with thejump to a .270.

My son is 12 and 150 lbs. He uses a 270 winchester (reduced LOP) with home loaded 110 gr Barnes TTSX for hunting and 110 gr sierra's for plinking. Both loads are loaded down(powder Winchester 760) to 3000 ft/sec. He started out using factory Winchester Supreme 150 gr bullets and he didn't like the recoil
