Default Best smoked fish in existence .

Smoked out of this world .....you can catch them on small jigs ....

We used pickerel rigs and worms ....gut them scale them.....

In the smoker ....

Any recipe for whitefish will work on these but they are muddy .

Voracious feeders ,small floating Rapalas

in the red deer river in the summer i catch them on anything from spinners small spoons and a ton of different flies.wet/dry. If smoked they are decent fish if fried there fillets are mushy and kinda gross but that may be cause i dont know how to fry em right.

when they're feeding they'll hit anything.

I've caught 12" goldeye on a 4" spoon before.

also, I've heard goldeye cheeks are a delicacy in some areas....

I haven't caught them ice fishing yet, but did catch a few late summer on the Red Deer River when a hatch was occurring on Pale Morning Dunn. They are tasteless unless smoked. Winnipeg was made famous way back for smoked Goldeyes.

Probably a size 10 to 14 hook is good.

10lb line is plenty - if you are using braid - run a fluorocarbon leader and swivel.

A piece of dew worm works wonders for these critters.
