40” pike on Walleye Slip Bobber Rig
I was out using Mega Live to target walleye with a slip bobber when I hooked up with a 40” pike. It gave me a great fight on a Medium Light rod with 8 lb fluoro. I managed to catch it on my GoPro with a head mount and thought I would share here.

Cool. That was a nice pike. I decided to get away from a head mount go-pro and bought a pair of Yolotek Power-Stiks for the upcoming season on sale at Radioworld.

Thanks. I have a couple other GoPros and mounts to do the same, but they chose a bad time to have the SD cards full and stop recording. You can actually hear the one beep that it was full in the video.

That's always a blast when that happens. I was pinning perch with a Ultra light and 4lb mono (no leader) and tiny little rattlin' flyer and a giant walleye ( 9.9 lbs ) cam in and smashed it like a freight train.
What a blast catching big fish on light gear.
And .... before the morality police chime in ...... I realize that overplaying a fish increases mortality but I was not targeting (nor would I target) bigger species on line/rods weights that would be unethical. By-catch happens.

And a person should not have to defend their actions or style of fishing to anyone else here or any other site etc. Just shows how poor the behaviours of some are in here that you feel you need to defend yourself when posting a pic, a story or comment.
Catching a 9.9lb walleye on an ultra-light rig would be a fun fight for sure.

A friend hooked a 41-1/2" pike on his walleye gear last summer, the hook broke as I netted it. I had been teasing him about taking so long to land it, assuming it was a walleye.

These ones are always nerve rattling lol. It is surprising how many big pike are caught on the tiniest presentations.
The wife got a 42" a couple years ago on a 6' L rod 1500 reel with 8lb mono direct tied to a 1/4oz jig. Probably the most rattled I've seen her with a fish on lol.

Awesome fish!! Years back in sask little one fell asleep on boat and had her 3ft little Spiderman rod hanging of the side, that rod went flying across the boat. Ended up being a 17lb pike, amazed she got it in on 4lb test and a little perch lure.

Thanks all. I love the sound of those long, peeling runs and the drag buzzing. My 13 year old daughter hooked up on an equally big pike the next day and she fought it for about the same time. It took one last run under the boat and got enough leverage to pop the jig out. While I love catching walleye, there is something to be said for the fight that a big gator puts up.
