Through projects in the east, we have learned that the Forest Fires Prevention Act in Ontario also provides for fines up to $25,000 for citizens, up to $500 000 for corporations plus the total cost of putting a fire out, in addition to jail time.
There have been cases identified where citizens couldn't bear the cost financially once proven so jail time was the alternative.
Wildfire prevention and policy was a key component in many of the RFPs of late in eastern projects.
