I bet the tables would be turned if that bird tried to steal a fish from WayneChristie's tip-up. He'd be going for a swim...

I believe it, I watched one in Banff go into a garbage can and pull out a cigarette package, then open it and take out the foil inside. They are smart birds.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, they are highly intelligent birds! I have a pair thats been at my ranch for years, they recognize my car coming down the driveway and they will fly around screaming at me till I get the .22 and shoot a couple of gophers for them!

I had an owl out at reesor in late fall a number of years back try and take a fish chain with 3 nice rainbows on it. Had to chase it away several times. The only reason he didnt get em was becaus I had it tied around a small log. Wonder how many easy meals he got over the years?

I'd be willing to say a rural magpie equals intelligence. Bluejays, Sparrows, list goes on, alot of smart birds out there in Alberta, let alone the world.
