Default Around the home tips and tricks to do things better thread

Hi all

Many of us have found work around or ways to fix common problems. So this thread is a good place to share anything of that nature. People can passively read and learn and save time and money.

Hope people find it interesting.

I have used repair folks from time to time. I have als discovered parts can be bought locally at Amre and online. Videos on YouTube really actually work. I have repairs dishwasher, dryer and washer.

Default No stick pots and pans are now sticking?

I have a few different pans. Gray and black etc.

When I see any food sticking, after I finish using it I wash it normally. I then take a wet Mr. Clean magic eraser and scrub the hell out of it. Doesn’t take a ton of elbow grease. You should see black/brown residue on the sponge. Keep cleaning till it is clean and or you find the sponge glides smoothly over the surface.

It works really really well.

Default Cleaning outside of BBQ?

I find a wet Mr Clean magic eraser sponge and wiping with paper towel works awesome to get grease and grime off.

Use news paper, water and wood ash for cleaning the glass on fireplaces and wood stoves. Just wet the news paper, dip in ash and scrub. Works better then anything I have bought.

One of my students told me this trick (thanks Flora!). When you have a stinky wash cloth or j-cloth get it good and wet and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. The bacteria will be killed and the stink will be cops gone.

Works well for those funky tshirts that just won’t wash out too.

Cut a piece of bicycle tire inner tube and slide it over your zippo lighter . It will help to keep the fluid from evaporating so fast
