It is a plague of goofy threads
3 on the first page alone between bullet placement, separation and now ice.
Too much time on their hands comes to mind.

There is no such thing as “safe ice.” Most people wait for 12” of ice for vehicle travel. Do what you will, but always be safe, use your best judgement, and be prepared for a worst case scenario situation.

Good advice, for sure I dont go on the ice until jan--with a vehicle, and then not until there are lots of vehicles on the ice.

many variables play in to so called safe ice as the charts will indicate thickness but not how it was constructed.....10' of grey ice that breaks away for an example....-20 around here will make solid clear ice as we have not had too much snow fall and warm temps to bugger it all up...I watch other venture out...usually wait till Jan'ish myself.

Gull kake Ice
Measured 7 1/2 inches of pretty good ice at Wilson today, jumped over to Brownlows and people were driving on the ice! My Dodge Diesel stayed at shore and I went out to where people where parked. One fella told me there was over a foot of good ice. Drilled a hole right near him and found there to be just shy of 10 inches. Seemed to hold his Chev Diesel up just fine but I will wait for 14 at least for me.
Play safe everyone

I measured 7.5-8in there today, and seen the small grey car drive on. In his defense the water is very shallow where he was driving, until he pulled up beside the shack that is.
