Default hunting dog for adoption

I've been keeping my eyes open for a new dog. Spotted this one. Sounds a little high energy for me, but... Might be good for somebody on here.

Default Looks Like a GWP

I adopted a 2 year old GWP and he has fit in well with the other animals. Was a bit agressive because of his situation and had to train him that the cat was not for hunting but he's got it now. Energy tospare but man what a hunter and pointer. 2 grouse already down the hatch due to this type of dog pointing them out. I'd go for it. My kids are 19 and 20 so you'll have to consider that angle. CHeck the tatoo to see who the breeder was and you'll know what to expect.

Checked, and he is 35kg (77lb). Supposed to be good with cats.

What a good looking dog... I daren't go to the SPCA...

Looks like a wire/shorthair cross.
Could be a real diamond in the rough!

I went to see Teddy today. Very nice dog. Not people centered like a lab, but I'm not familiar with pointers at all. He was polite on the leash, basic commands but needs some upgrading. My wife would be happier with a more people centered dog. Hoping somebody takes this guy in.

Smile It could be a very good dog.

I think he is getting a bit of a bad rap, at his age he will not take instantly to new people.

I wonder if he is a pure bred, and where did he come from? I've seen some very nice GWPs that any one would love.

I hope some one gives the guy a second chance.

Don't get me wrong - there was nothing to dislike about this boy that I saw. I would love to give him a "test drive", but they don't allow that short of surrendering your $200. I have an old cat who must come first having been with us 16 years. They also wouldn't let me take him into a fence in off leash area to see what he was like. We live on an acreage so to know he would come when called is important.

Isn't there a breeder here in AB that cross breeds that specific line?

Smile Lets hear how it goes.

He should be able to do everything except answer the phone. Point, retrieve ducks in cold water and get you all the pheasants you are allowed.

If you need a few pointers on the finer points of training this type of dog, there is lots of help on this forum.

My wife checked all dogs for micro-chips and tattoos at our SPCA back home. Is that not common practice out here. Being a gun dog enthusiast, I usually knew who's dog I picked up (if it was a hunting dog) as an Animal Control Officer but it is actually the reason my wife did not like breeders. All she saw at the shelter was rejects from over breeding dumped somewhere. It has taken my a long time to show her what responsible breeders are capable of. That is why I do Limited breedings and I focus on "purpose bred dogs" instead of Pure bred as that term leaves a sour taste in alot of peoples minds.

Being my first pointer, I'll be looking for lots of advice. For obedience training much the same as a lab?

Once I get him settled I'll start looking at the finer details.

My son has extensive interviews when he got his spanial, anmd when he was lookign at a GSP from Firepoint as well.
Those breeders are very picky about who they sell to.
The guy who we got louie from obvioulsy is as well, that pup cost me a Berreta O/U!!

Firepoint produces Fine Quality GSP's and like me hunt test's and shows as well. I met Janna at the show in Calgary for the first time. Beautiful "Gun" Dogs.
