Default Hmmmm...

Maybe I could train them to hunt the neighbor's cats that roam freely in my flowerbeds.

I'm with you. I hate my neighbors and their ignorant ways.

I believe they are just basically loosing their fear of humans generation to generation. We will see many more problems with wildlife in the future because of it.

I live next to an off leash ravine trail system where I walk my two lab-x daily. Coyotes are common. Just last night one of my girls took off and I heard a yote yipping back - I let her visit and she caught back up to us without issue. They all seem to know their boundaries. I have even caught my lagging dogs smelling noses with them on several occasions...oh the horror...

I've had alot of friends loose dogs to coyotes that are just "being friendly". I guess it depends on animal.

Coyotes, raccoons, bears, cougars, skunks, I see real problems coming down the road. If IRC entire drainages in Kananaskis were shut down because of bear sightings or confrontations, animals learn successful strategies quickly.

Having lived in Vancouver, and having visited Toronto a few times, I am horrified should raccoons start spreading throughout Calgary (they have become more and more common south of Anderson Road in the past 10 years).

cougars are here now, bears are not far behind them and wolves will be making their way eastward much faster than either.

The predation is coming to your urban area…via hybrids. Think your living one with nature because meat eaters walk thru your yard? Fine live one with the predator…just don’t be upset when a kid you know gets eaten. If we are too stupid to protect them we lose them.

Historically predatory species don’t tolerate each others presence. They tend to feed on each others young and compete for protein resources.

x100000 Ignorant people! We live on the outskirts of W. Edmonton. There are tons of coyotes here. I haven't heard of any children being harmed or any run ins with people, but there are also very few deer and upland birds in the vicinity. It appears that the city nor the landowner is prepared to do anything. I wish that I could bait and shoot them. It would be soooo easy right from the bathroom window. Coyotes are an amazing animal really. They have been shot, trapped, poisoned, you name it, and still they adapt and thrive. Wish the devils would follow the laws of nature, but nothing seems to affect their numbers. They will eat and survive on anything. Their impact on antelope and other ungulates is maddening. Just shoot one every chance you get.
