Even that's a joke, picked up three dozen for ($50/per) from Cabelas, used $20 off coupon--$130 for 3 dozen

Be interesting to see if they'd move Cabelas. Probably not in the cards though with leases and etc. Damned shame this is occurring. The other stores around town will have to expand on their reloading stuff now. I will miss that store.

a question to people working there.
I was in Regina last year when they were closing the store and got a buddy heater for %40 off regular price. when i walked out I saw FINAL SALE stamped on my receipt. out of curiosity I checked the price at the fishin hole and regular price was about $10 less than what i paid at WSS with the 40% sale!!!!!

my question is, did they jack the prices up and then stamped 10% off on them like they did in Regina?

One fellow complained that he was in the store yesterday and he was about to buy a bow that was about 30% off. Management asked him to leave and closed the doors. Today he came back to buy the bow and it was only 5% off.

Most of the people I spoke to say that the deals were less than the usual flyer sales.

Lots of people left the store empty handed with the exception of those that bought fishing lures. Some were buying buckets full.

Met a few staff that were not sales staff. Most were asked for their keys etc. yesterday and asked to get their stuff and were escorted out in about 5 minutes.

Default Wss

Was there this morning in Calgary parking lots were packed. Pretty well a waste of time for only 5% off guns and ammo. Deer bait was 30% off. Took about 45 minutes in line to pay. Multiple People in front of me dropping $500+ so doubt much merchandise will be around in December judging by the amount of stuff I see going out the door minus guns. Was surprised the amount of people who took the day off work to go.

Very sad to see WS gone but at least it looks like they will do well selling off their stock. To bad they didn't attract this level of sales more regularly. Definitely getting more competitive though, between the Big US stores, ST getting into the game heavy and all the new independents there is a lot more people competing for the sportsman's dollar.

There is no doubt UFA did an atrocious job of running these stores. There should be people getting fired from UFA Head Office for this massive write-off that UFA is going to take.

All the best to the staff of WS.

Default Only UFA

Could screw up a liquidation sale to that extent that prices are higher for some items on the clearance and only 5% on guns and ammo. Didnt I see a Cabelas flyer recently for 20% of ammo and free shipping?

I know this sounds silly and I don't totally believe it either but a friend of mine says his cousin works for PCL and is a part of the crew who is building the mall and he claims there is going to be a bass pro in the new outlet mall.

just to add my 2 cents to the pile on...

Not once do I remember going into that store and leaving with what I needed, and without some kind of annoyance. Both management and staff contributed to the problem. Consequences. Sucks for the folks that did their best and lost jobs, but one shouldn't stay with a sinking ship.

As far as competition, I get that point of view but, well, they weren't. cabassproellas cant raise prices as they face the same challenges from the economy and online sales. I don't think anything significant will change.

Lol it's not a screw up and is planned. It worked it brought people in like cattle. They've got months to sell what they have no reason to lose on margin now.

Will miss wholesale, I much preferred their fishing department over Cabelas and Bass pro in Calgary. Their firearms counter was lacking and a couple of the gun counter guys were not great, but they did have some good sales and sold some brands\ammo that Cabelas didn't.

The Calgary store layout was pretty bad in comparison to Cabelas and they definitely had issues getting people in the door since Cabelas in Calgary opened. Also pretty suprised UFA didn't or weren't successful in selling off Wholesale. I would have thought Canadian Tire\FGL might have snatched them up

big lines in edmonton north, not sure what people were buying, looked like lots of already crazy overpriced hunting clothes

many people, including myself left empty handed because there is not really any deals at all

5% to 10% off most useful stuff, normal sales are better most the time when stuff is 30%-50% off

not a liquidation at all, just a BS marketing campaign to get people into the store

i bought a brand new browning xbolt there last year 40% off on clearance, now they are "liquidating" and rifles only 5% off

total joke

I dropped in for a look around and there is nothing special on the firearms and ammo end, knives were only 10% off. I had a nice pair of pants in my hands but put them back on the rack because I didn't want to stand in the lineup that was all the way back to the gun vaults

Those signs look like the ones that were up in zellers during their final days.
