Default Calling lake

AB Sportfishing Regulations 2012 for Caling Lake OPEN - JUNE 1 to MARCH 1 and MARCH 2 to MAY 31 - CLOSED. Is this print mistake or not?

Default Regs were not printed

They missed the printing for the lake portion on the 2012 regs. Its still open till march 31 and still allowed 2 wallys 45-55 cms. Starting this year its 1 at 45-55. No clue why they made it like that. Should be 1 50cm +.

Could be that they are listening to all those that have asked for slot limits. Especially the Fish'n Canada guys as I recall.

Could also be that the Walleye are stunting. If you look at the netting data the average size, and the max size, has been falling as those older larger ones have been caught, died or starved to death. By taking some smaller ones out of the system you might open up some room for some larger ones again.

Still better than having to go to tags IMHO.

This is only my guess though.

I believe the slot limit is the correct thing to do with Calling. This allows the population to be held in check (if you were there over the past few years, the fish were extremely skinny due to being malnourished due to the over population of fish). It also allows the bigger fish to remain in the lake, spawn, and therefore keep the genetics in the system. It is these older, larger fish we all want to catch. Now we get to take a pic with the bigger fish, release it for another day, and still have a shorelunch or feed of the smaller, and IMO, better eating fish.

Slot limits are the best of both worlds.
