Cuba Fishing
I just recently got back from Cuba, Cayo coco, Memories Caribe. Did the all inclusive thing. Brought my fins, mask and snorkle but did not bring any fishing gear. I was swimming out around a reef on day two and ran into a fella chest deep in the water fishing so I went over and talked to him. Well we fished together from then on in and I tell ya we had a blast! This is what he did and I will from here on in. Go to the buffet and load up a tupper ware bucket with Shrimp, Octapus, muscles basically anything fishy for bait. We used a medium size hook and a hunk of tupper ware delight and just cast into the reef.
We caught a variety of fish from the Grunts, Sergeant Majors, Pork Fish, Yellow goat fish, Yellow Tails etc No Barracudas but I did see four of them. The largest fish caught was about ten pounds...this was simply a blast and at no cost! He had in the past caught big Barracudas, these long needle fish that were blue on color.
I asked the locals and they said it was fine to fish and even one guy brought one back and the locals cooked it for him at the beach for all to enjoy.
Just thought Id share this and I know my rods and gear are coming with me from here on in.
