Default Impeller on 1977 Merc 200

A guy at work here has a 1977 Mercury 200 2 stroke (20 hp) and is looking to change out the impeller ..... where can he find instructions or a manual on how to do this?

Thanks in advance .....

If he doesn't have time to find a manual, I've found some of the instructional videos on YouTube extremely helpful for swapping impellers, maintaining water pump components, tricks with gaskets, etc. As long as he has the right impeller kit for the motor, I would assume that an instructional video for something like that would be generic enough to cover most old outboards...

Hope it helps!

Try you tube. Or if you find a parts diagram online for your model it should be easy to figure out. Another good place to ask is iboats boating forum.

I have a Manual for my Merc 115 2 stoke. I think it covers the 200 hp model. I will check when I am back in the garage later. I might be able to scan and upload/email the instructions for you.

Youtube would also be a good option to see it done..

Thanks everyone - I will let him know ...... he is pretty mechanically inclined so it shouldn't be too tough for him - he just hasn't done it before and thought he had to take the lower unit off and I told him I would check first before he gets into major surgery on an older lower unit.

I'm fairly new to this type of thing as well, so there could be tricks that I don't know about - but as far as I know you do have to remove the lower leg unit to access the water pump and impeller...

I think there was a little instruction sheet that came with the impellor when I did one that I had.

If your friend is mechanically inclined, he already has 90% of it beat. The bottom does have to come off. The only tricky part to pay attention to was the copper tube needs to be fully inserted to make sure the water gets pushed up to the motor.

Yes and should be only 4 bolts at most, then it should just slide off. Might have to force the lower unit at first to break it free. Check U-Tube.
