Default Amending Firearm Registration

Called CFO today to amend the registration of an action that I had
re-barreled to a caliber different than the original. No problem with the caliber change but CFO agent was not sure what to call it as I had also changed the stock. So when they identified the gun as a Rem 700 VLS, I told them it was no longer in the VLS stock...and to call it "custom". Anybody else raise the issue with them? Result?

Interesting... at what point would a Remington no longer be a Remington? What is the one final piece of the gun that, if altered or replaced, would change the make of gun?

Tell them you are un sure of the final product, and may revert back to the original or even a different caliber.
Ask them to register it as a Remington 700 Action Only.

Afterall the action/receiver is the only part that has to have a serial number, and as far as the law is concerned is the only controlled piece of the firearm.

(there are a few items such as magazines, etc. that can be prohibated by their own nature mind you)

it's pretty easy to confuse the CFC with chambering changes...I've gone thru it many times.....they don't realize that a Rem 700 especially is somewhat modular with barrels and stocks easy to swap...don't know why they need all those model names on a 700.....it take s bit to amend to something that was never produced at the factory...I did a 700 BDL to a 257 Wtby and a Model Seven to 257 Roberts...neither were factory model/caliber combinations...they have to create a new FRT #....

LOL...try registering a T/C ProHunter.

Is it a rifle, shotgun or muzzleloader Mr. Sheephunter

Depends on my mood that day

Well what calibre is it Mr Sheephunter

Pretty much whatever I want it to be.

Well what is the barrel length Mr Sheephunter

That varies.......

Default ???????????

Not sure what this is all about. I have never ,on any of my rifles, told them what cal. they were. And they have never asked either. Make, model and serial number are all the info i have been asked for. Oh and only occassionally the barrel length but not always. Stocks are cosmetic and rebarrelling don,t change the serial number.

Default just trouble

Talking to the cfc on stuff like this just leads to lots of hassle. I would have thought they'd required a verifier to inspect and provide a verification of the firearm.

I don't give them or volunteer any more than I absolutely have to to the CFC.
All, the registration they need is the numbers on my receiver, that's it.
Got into a big discussion with one of them over a shotgun , which still is not registered.Seems they told me that Remington never made a SXS hammerless 16 gauge before!
Never mind my express guns with shotgun AND rifle barrels.
it's a mess and i'll be very glad when it is all gone, imagine them demand I register an original .577 Snider? Happened.
