Filming your own Hunt

Hey guys I just purchased a Bow finger so I could start filming my own hunts and was impressed with the product but would also like to get a camera arm so I can film more steady from both the ground and in the tree.

Does anyone know of a good Camera arm that can convert from mounting to a tree and can also be used on the ground, in a blind or something. I am only going to be using a small hand held cam corder for the moment.

There are tons of good camera arms out there, but it all depends on your budget.

I would like to keep it under $200 if it possible.

i think everyone should try this at least once. see what kind of footage you get, and then decide if you should be beetching and whining about less than perfect footage on wild tv. dont forget, you cant shoot during those prime hours at dawn and dusk when the shot wont turn out.

Everyone should try what? I am a bit confused about who is beetching and whining about poor footage on wild tv, I am just looking at filming from different angles and wanting some advice on how to go about it.

sorry TT....not so much directed towards you, but the constant threads on here about how much wild tv and all the shows on it suck. its harder than you think, and to do it all alone compounds it even more. i wish you luck.

the3rdarm is pretty good and so is gomuddy but to top it off you need a good head like a manfrotto or gitzo and thats going to cost you some money!

Make your own it can be done very inexpensively.I made mine for less than 50bucks and have used it for years.Get an old camera tripod that tilts up and down and to both sides,mount it in a 1x1 aluminum tubing about 10" long,join it to another using nylon bushings than fasten it to a 6" piece of C channel.Fasten it to a tree using nylon straps with buckles like are on your backpack.When on the ground or in a blind I just use a tripod.

gorilla arm is under a 100 it works good for tree stands, tripod in ur blind

When I was at the West Ed. Mall I have seen a pretty good HD camera that can be attached to a rifle or a bow.
It's small, has a very wide angle of 170°, records 1080p high def. to an SD card.
Has a remote switch which can be mounted anywhere for an easy reach.
Since there is no moving parts inside, it can resist recoil - unfortunately there is no optical zoom, but a 4x digital zoom for the same reason.
It also takes still pics in 9mp resolution.
They had 2 models, and I believe the price was $250-350, based on the model.

I would suggest something like a contour HD or a Midland XTC200 or 300. They have the same concept but more versitile. Keep in mind if you want to film a good hunt don't just use the gun/bow cam add in some footage with other cams as well. It is hard to explain but I will see if I can show you.

Here are a few clips I made mainly for fun! When I made these all I had was a small HD camcorder that I plugged and external microphone into. I know have a but more professional stuff and am really going to concentrate on filming this year!

The Gopro works well for a second camera, you will be disappointed if this is your prime camera..

go to www.campbellcameras.com, get an idea of the gear to make a successful Do-it-yourself filmed hunt. I use a muddy outdoors hunter camera arm, yes i was around 350.00 bucks, but after trying the gorilla and making my own I should have just spent the cash and saved myself the frustration of sketchy footage. A good fluid head comes in handy, I like the monfotto
701HD. As for cameras it really depends on how much money you want to spend. Theres a small camera remote control that monfrotto makes that mounts onto the handle of the fluid head, saving you from making excessive movements to control the cameras record/focus/zoom functions. I also am a big fan of the Go pro, Can mount them anywhere, even on your bow and the footage is awesome, just not great for the shot(no possibility of a zoom.) Enjoy! once you start filming theres no stopping

The only problem that happens sometimes the price of shipping is ridiculas!
