Question Suffield - January Success?

A few reports trickling in from the base already.
None are what I would call "good" or even promising at this point.

Hoping to hear of some success down that way Gentz!
Fingers crossed for those in the hunt!

Cheers,
Nog - Seeking an Incentive or Two...

Unhappy

27 total was that I got back.
A 350" for a White Gal, and a 360" for a FN.

Not exactly what I thought it would be...

Having two bulls of that category in one day seems pretty good to me. Contrary to a lot of reports the base is not over run with booners

Question Oldcollector

Has any one got any info as to how many tags were issued for this current Jan 11 to 13 hunt and how many for the cow draws later this month . I have a draw for cow on the 13 wondering if a person has a 50% chance of getting even one cow ??:

North east corner is where the big bulls hang out. In little groups right by the lakes near the sanctuary. The natives head straight there and that's were they showed me. I got a 350 hour and a half into the first day. The natives seen to know were they are.

Does anyone have a "confirmed" reason why so much of the base is closed? I heard there was approx. 60% closed today... Doesn't seem to make sense

My guess is to ensure cow guys get fresh area for their hunt. Best way to reduce the heard is to take the cows. The bull hunt is simply to let non FN albertans a chance to take some before all the quality bulls are gone, which won't be long. All bull hunts use one map, all cow hunts use another, but the bull guys can also go to the new areas(on Wednesday)or at least that is how it has been so far.

Springer you'll have to share some more details... In talking with Range Patrol it sounded like all the huntable area would open up Wednesday. Today and tomorrow are the North half.

We were out there today and the North half was open for the Antlered Hunt, we did see both antlered and Antlerless but could not seal the deal, things happen a lot quicker than normal. We were discouraged at times today and have lowered our expectations for tomorrow.

I thought these hunts were like fish in a barrel with a 400-450" bull around every corner?

So far it's been pretty bad, we have seen 1 elk in the hunting area, a wounded cow. The only other elk was a herd of maybe 10 back in the nwa. Other than that lots of antelope, trucks on every second hill and most roads. Not exactly what I had hoped for or expected. My fil burned a p9 or 10 on this hunt, not exactly what I'd call a hunt of a lifetime...

Between the 100+ FN's out here +the 80 or so remaining bull hunters + the cow hunters tomorrow I'm questioning our sanity, yes it's a big base but with the open country any elk that shows itself will be running for it's life by 830...

That's not painting a good hope for when we get there tomorrow. Wish you luck today.
