I fish with a few people that are locals in Lomond/help run the derby, and as of today they still are not sure when tickets will be going on sale.

How often do they weigh the fish? Can't imagine you keep a 25+ lb pike in the cooler for 2 days.

As soon as you catch the big one, take it up and have it weighed right away. Release and go back to catch the next one. They have weigh stations at the quonset and on the lake, at 3 or 4 locations.

You have to buy tickets in advance as they usually sell out. WSS in lethbrige and the Lomond hotel/bar used to be the only places to buy them. Not sure about this year.

They go on sale at 9:00 Saturday morning at the community centre, if you don't make it there then the hotel bar, and wss Lethbridge will have them. Last year they didn't sell out so some people got them at the derby.

Would anyone who has been to this derby before be able to tell me about the registration. If you purchase your ticket ahead of time, can you just head out on the ice on derby day and start fishing at the designated time and area?(like the newell derby) or do you need to line up in the morning to register first and then head out on the lake?(that process if not handled right annoys the tar out of me...aka 90 minute wait at the rattlesnake derby a few years ago) Thank you!
Chris

They usually have the doors open at the quanset between 7 and 7:30. Reg. only takes a few minutes at best and you can be fishing by 8.

thanks B.Hoppe. I get ansy waiting in line if it gets to be long. I dont think I will do the rattlesnake derby again for just that reason. the newell derby was so nice. Buy everything ahead of time and just show up at the lake and start fishing at the designated time. Only thing is you have to TRUST other participants to be honest with their start time.

Badger can be like that also. Sometimes the big fish will bome in just after 8:00, and then other times it is caught in the afternoon. They will 2 - 4 guys at the table, so it isn't a single line. Go in sign the square, get your ribbon, and go fishing.

At the rattlesnake derby, they had a looooong line of vehicles and would let one vehicle at a time pull up to the station, go in and do the reg stuff then back out and get your vehicle out of the way for the next person. took forever. In their defence, there was alot of snow at the time, so that restricted parking areas etc. but it turned me off of fishing that derby.

The lineups for registration on Friday is normally pretty short, as most people are still working. As mentioned above, the process takes just a few minutes, so your in and as fast as possible.

I knew they were going to 2 days this year instead of 3, but ya.... Would have thought it'd be Sat/Sun too.... Seems weird

EDIT: Taken from the derby website:

2013 Badger Lake Fishing Derby Dates

CFE #0743

February 22nd and 23rd. Friday and Saturday.

2013 derby will be a 2 day event.

There are a few new rules that will be posted on the day of the derby.

Anybody know what the 'new rules' would be?
