I think it's a nice gesture.
That's being said, I wouldn't feed it to my dog.

Edit: Now I see what your question was.

Shoot what you will eat, no need to shoot another just because you have a tag.

Another person goes on to ask..."is it freezer burnt?" To which the first replies..."I dont know I haven't unwrapped any to check"

There is probably some less fortunate families that would gladly take it.

I agree it is a huge waste of meat and these are the kind of people that give other hunters a bad name. But I don't think it's fair to say that's what supplemental tags do. Just because you don't think there should be supplemental tags. Lots of people get great use out of that extra meat. Me personal, I have shot one doe in the last four years due to low numbers in my area.

Back on topic complete waste of meat and people that let meat spoil like that should have there licence taken a way for a year.

My annoyance comes with the fact this person didn't check the meat to see if it was still edible...I have had the odd pack of meat get mixed in and "misplaced" for up to 3-4 years....I unwrapped it and it was still very edible. If wrapped properly and stored in a good freezer meat can last a few years. Now not sure if this person assumed it wasn't fit for humans because it was 2 years old? Because they didn't check for freezer burn...that I know.

I just was taught that if you kill it you eat it (varmints and predators except of course)....just seems like an awful waste to me.

It's not going to waste if someone claims it. Really one of you guys should try and get hold of that awesome sausage making material.

Hal, if I had to wager on it, I would place my money on it being a guy who buys a tag and hunts for the kill, and maybe the camaraderie, but doesn't enjoy the meat, as opposed to a guy filling extra tags.

I know a few guys like that, but they always make sure they give the meat to someone who will use it.

This bugs me a lot. Same as when hunters kill more than they need just to give the meat away.

Too many people out there killing with no intentions of eating it! It's a total waste of meat and opportunity for ethical hunters to harvest some game for the table. I see this all too often! People pretending to be hunters. They just want to kill. They don't care about the meat.

It's really too bad, some people just enjoy killing the animal, and don't want to put in the effort to do anything else, including eat it. If your not into it for the meat, don't bother.

Could be some woman giving away her exs bounty. Maybe he's in the clink.
Maybe moved back home....
Could be many scenarios. Death? Illness.
I still don't like it either but I have no doubt the meat will get used by someone.

It bothers me. Eat what you shoot or at very least give it to someone else who will.

Would this not be covered under this regulation?

http://albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/genregs.html

allow the edible meat of any game bird or big game animal (except cougar or bear), to become unfit for human consumption.

Not as long as they don't pay for it.
