Look on the barrel for make and calibre. Search online and find out what a new one sells for at the most expensive retailer you can find. ADD 3% and that is what the rifle is worth.
If there is any rust, or there are any deep gouges into the stock, it is considered to be in "Like New" condition. If the stock is cracked or any parts on the firearm are held together with duct tape; it is considered to "have a few hunting marks on it." Do not worry about the age of the rifle either. Many rifles are worth more today than they were brand new 25 years ago.
