Default Some positive press for our rattlesnakes :-)

Hey all!

It’s been awhile, I apologize!
Just thought I’d check in to share this news article about our rattlesnakes and my work through the company I started, Snakes on a Plain.
It’s been so fun, and the folks in industry I’ve worked with are so appreciative to have access to snake safety training. (Or snake management services on site.)

Anyway, I know many of you love the plains as much as I do, so I hope you enjoy the coverage.

Luv snakes, I am the guy that’s picks them up off the road come fall and put them in the grass as to not get ran over.

Now spiders are a different story.

Keep it up.

Nice to see the attitude towards snakes change although it has taken a while. I used to have a picture from the 1940’s of my mother(a teenager then) and her friends standing over a pile of snakes they had shot with their 22 rifles. A normal Sunday afternoon outing at the time.
That was north of Taber.

Great Job!

I only recently started exploring the banks of the South Saskatchewan River a couple years ago, but I've walked into a few rattlers already. I took the family camping on the SSR this August. It was my wife's first time, the girls came with me last year. We didn't do a lot of hiking since it was so hot but I was surprised that the only rattler we seen was about 12ft from our trailer, and right on the pathway that leads down to the river.

All my previous run-ins, the rattlers would start rattling when you were about 3 meters away. This time I stepped right beside it, and only noticed it was there because it moved and shook the dry shrubs. I was expecting to see a cottontail rushing off, not a rattle snake partly on the path. I assume the rattler was shedding and couldn't see properly through the old skin, and that is why it didn't rattle. And it was definitely full size since it was easily 4 feet long and 2" in diameter. Kind of ****ed me off. LOL!

I am glad someone is educating people about snakes.

It is important, Snakes are important, and facinating creatures.

My interest in Snakes started when I was very young.
The only Snakes I see around here are Red Sided Garter Snakes.

I spent a week exploring east of Calgary this spring but still haven't been lucky enough to see a Rattler.

Some day.

Worked and hunted in snake country in SW Texas. Wear snake boots. Carry on.
The safety guy did tell those that we paid from the neck down not to approach , or try to pick them up. That was it. Saw lots never had a problem.

Very cool and some nice publicity. I've wrangled a few rattlers back in the 80's near Brooks, Patricia area and North of Medicine hat near the South Saskatchewan. Gently held their heads down with a piece of survey lathe, picked them up behind the head and mid body and take them to a safe area off of the jobsite. I like snakes.

It seems year after year the population of both Bulls and Rattlers are increasing... Have some pretty awesome footage of two male rattlers doing the dance prior to breeding... Next day, the larger one got his way and again some neat footage...

The bull snakes around the farm are thick, picked up a shed that pushes over 8 feet no problem...

Thanks for the efforts you make on educating the public on these great creatures Arachnodisiac.
